Richard Dale Crum
It is with profound sadness that we say goodbye to our dear friend Richard Crum, who passed away suddenly in his home in Jeffersonville, Indiana on February 21, 2019.
Four years after his laryngectomy surgery in 1988, Richard joined InHealth Technologies as a patient consultant providing training and guidance to the laryngectomy community and their families. Richard created and implemented educational tools, videos, and resources to help fellow laryngectomees worldwide. He quickly became the face of InHealth Technologies which he represented with true excellence.
Richard was an active member of the IAL, WebWhispers, and many state and local support groups, where he provided friendship, mentorship, and support to hundreds of laryngectomees and their families.
As a licensed auctioneer and real estate broker as well as an avid and adventurous cruise ship traveler, Richard inspired people to live their very best lives. He was on the Board of Directors of the Indiana Auctioneers Association for seven years and was the President in 1991. Richard was inducted into the Indiana Auctioneers Association Hall of Fame in 1996.
The positive impact Richard had on the laryngectomy community is demonstrated by their appreciation of him throughout the years. Richard was inducted into the Florida Laryngectomy Association Hall of Fame in 2007. He was granted "The Terrie Hall Outliving Life Award" at the IAL meeting in Buffalo, NY in 2014 and the "Stars Appreciation Award" at the IAL meeting in Dallas, Texas in 2016.
Richard was an inspiration and example to the community he supported. We are grateful to have known Richard and we admire his life well-lived. We will miss our friend.
