Professional Series Webinar: Stoma Care and Management
Communication restoration and pulmonary rehabilitation are two central tenants in laryngectomy care. However, we often look past one of the main factors that can complicate these: the stoma. Understanding our role as speech pathologists in the maintenance and care of the stoma immediately postoperatively and into survivorship allows clinicians to provide comprehensive care to our patients. In this one-hour, live interactive webinar, we will walk though stoma care, from surgical formation, to mature stoma complications and functional strategies to incorporate into everyday practice.
The participant will be able to:
- The participant will describe stoma creation and its functional implications.
- The participant will identify at least 2 strategies to manage stomal stenosis
- The participant will discuss 3 ways to promote patient independence post-operatively within the first month.
